S.D. KanyaMahavidyala, Mansa has been widely recognized for its illustrious history. It was in 1969 when a group of enlightened and farsighted philanthropists envisaged an idea of starting an institution so that girls of the area could have easy access to higher education. The brave-heart visionaries put in their blood and sweat, contributed in cash and kind, and relentlessly worked together under the able captaincy of Sh. R. R. Singla, the founder President, to translate their vision into reality. The institution is situated in an ideal and safe urban location-a focal point attracting students from around fifty five villages of Dist. Mansa. The institution is run under the aegis of Sanatan Dharam Sabha which aims to propagate Indian cultural doctrines of Karma, Upasna and Gyan and to cultivate love and harmony amongst the various sects of society. SDKMV Mansa is equally determined to foster high moral values by educating women of the rural and semi-urban areas thus preparing them for the Nation-building process.
The institution is a multi-faculty institution providing courses in Arts, Commerce, Computer Application and Library Science at under-graduate level and Masters in Punjabi and Computer Application. In addition to these courses, the college also provides many career-oriented courses i.eAdd-on-Course in Spoken English by Punjabi University, Patiala and Certificate Course in IT Enable Services byJagat Guru Nanak DevPunjab State Open University, Patiala. Besides, two more courses i.eCertificte Course in Entrepreneurship, Creativity and Innovation in Business and Certificate in Fashion Designing have also been included in the curriculum. The institution takes pride in having brilliant, hard-working, efficient and competent faculty that is all time eager to render every kind of service to the students- be it academic, financial and moral. The students are also supported by various scholarships schemes launchedby the Govt. and the Non-Govt. Agencies and by the institution itself. Keeping in view the financial needs of the meritorious students belonging especially to the economically weaker sections, the Financial Assistance and Mentor Schemehas been launched by the Managing Committee. The scheme has been a huge success since many great visionaries from the nation and abroad have come forward for the noble cause and have contributed in promoting women education.
The institution has an adequate infrastructure to facilitate students with a suitable academic and extra-curricular environment. It has four well-equipped laboratories, fourteen well-furnished rooms and an air-conditioned digitalized library. The students of the college keep participating in various competitions such as Talent Hunt Programme, One-day and Seven-day NSS Camps, NCC Camps, Zonal and Inter-ZonalYouth Festivals etc. which would help in their holistic development. Emphasis is also laid on Community Outreach Programmesfor personal growth and social development through NSS, NCC, Red Ribbon Club, Red Cross Club, and Legal Literacy Club. The college provides ample opportunities to expose the students to the corporate world by conducting various field trips to industries and banks. Seminars, workshops and special lectures by experts are also organized on various occasions. Besides, the coaching classes are arranged for the students to prepare them for various competitive exams.
The college has, thus, come to occupy a place of pride in the educational arena of dist. Mansa. It is doing yeoman’s service in the field of women education with the sole purpose to establish an unbiased social set-up. The institution regularly obtains feedback from its students and stake-holders in order to work with much more efficiency.
